If you’re like me, you have an electric can opener sitting on the counter in your kitchen.
It’s a tool I use ALL THE TIME…
However, an electric can opener won’t be of any use during a power outage — you need a manual one.
Don’t forget to store this small kitchen tool for an emergency. If you don’t have a handheld can opener, make sure to pick one up on your next trip to the store, or get one HERE.
If you have any food stored, chances are good that a lot of it is in cans. It’s much easier to open them if you have the right tools to do it. I keep a manual can opener in a drawer in my kitchen and I also store one on a shelf with my food storage for easy access in an emergency.
I also bought a 10-pack of small, P-38 military can openers that I can give out to neighbors during an emergency. I think it’s nice to store extra items like this so you can help others, too.
It’s not impossible to open a can without a can opener, but it does require a lot more work!
You could probably open a can with a knife and a hammer. I also saw a fun video where someone opened a can using only a spoon!
