Emergency preparedness is a SUPER important topic. Unfortunately, we’ve found that most people don’t talk about it enough. This is something we hope to change.
You can help!
If you want to get your friends and family more involved in emergency preparedness, here are a few things you can try.
Talk About the Emergency Preparedness Steps You’re Taking
Prepping is a way of life…
If you are consistently adding to your food storage, updating your 72-hour kit, and learning about emergency preparedness, these topics will naturally come up in conversations with friends and family. Don’t avoid talking about your prepping efforts. When others hear what you are doing, they are much more likely to want to do the same. Your passion can rub off on them.
‘Prepping’ used to be considered a pastime for conspiracy theorists. We think this stereotype has shifted. All preppers are not conspiracy theorists, and most don’t go to ‘doomsday’ extremes with their preps. People aren’t going to think you are nuts for prepping anymore — they are going to think you are smart!
With news stories circulating of empty store shelves, civil unrest around the world, and an uptick in natural disasters, more and more people are seeing why preparing for disasters and hard times is important. Tell friends and family what steps you are taking to prepare and this could motivate them to do the same.
Everyone should have a 72-hour kit ready for an emergency and everyone should discuss emergency plans with their family!
Invite Others to Participate in Emergency Preparedness Projects
Your friends and family probably wish they were better prepared for an emergency, but they probably don’t know where to start or they don’t want to spend time or money on it. There are many reasons why they haven’t put much thought into emergency preparedness and are not as passionate about it as you.
Here are a few things they might be thinking:
- Creating a 72-hour kit seems like a daunting task.
- Storing and rotating food requires real effort.
- Buying survival gear is expensive and I wouldn’t know how to use it.
- The government will help out if a disaster happens.
- Emergency preparedness is a never-ending chore.
Everything is easier when you’re working on it with a friend. The same applies to emergency preparedness efforts. Sometimes all your friends and family need is a little nudge and to know they won’t have to do it alone.
Tell others when you’re updating your 72-hour kit and invite them to do the same. Let them know when you see a great deal on some food storage items. Invite your friends to join you at emergency preparedness classes. You can even offer to help by showing them everything you are doing.
We have a great Facebook group dedicated to all things prepping. We often share deals we see on Amazon and share information about emergency preparedness. Come join our Facebook Group and invite your friends, too!
